Silly Points

HAVE you seen or heard anything funny or interesting at the Club or involving a cricket section member? Or are you a former member now living overseas and just want to drop us a letter? If so, drop me an email me@solmates.com.

Seen & Heard

ONE had to chuckle at the irony of it all... A flustered looking Mark Eames, trapsing around KCC with three kids in tow. Where was Sarah? Away on a cricket tour of course!

UPON returning to Hong Kong after an all too brief CNY holiday, I was gobsmacked to learn that HKCC CoC and Walt Disney wonderkid Mark Winstanley had claimed this season's best bowling figures of 7-23 in a Saturday League match played on 17th January. According to the HKCA's stats, until that game, Teddy (as he is affectionately known) had only taken a total of 5 wickets this season at an average of 51 runs per wicket and an economy of 8 runs per over... I know Disneyland is coming to Hong Kong but it seems that Fantasyland is already here!

Letters

If you are a former KCC member now living overseas, we'd love to hear from you so send us a letter!

From Charles O'Brian (received 27 September 2003):

"Dear Travis,

The revamped Members End looks good even if most of it is about the usual suspects. I hear that Rob Gill has ordered new kit from the UK so things must be getting really desperate for the Saracens. Burji Shroff admits to being 50! We all know how old that body really is. Just watch it try and take a quick single. And the Stop Press News that Sharma and Eames score centuries. I'm glad to see that the old boys keep rolling on.

What a delight Po Kong Village must be to play on and what a disappointment that i missed the opportunity of playing there. Must make the days at DBS seem like a dream from another age.

Met up with Pat Fordham for the first day of the Oval Test match and had a good day talking about great days from our Saracens past. That took up about 10 minutes so we were able to talk about other stuff for the rest of the day.

I am enjoying my semi retirement and am about to cut down the number of days I work by half. From two to one. Can't overdo it. We now have a dog so walking him 3 times a day substitutes for going to the Gym or playing cricket. He barks at strangers, eats anything in front of him and craps a lot. Which reminds me, how is Shiroy?

Best wishes to the section for the new season. Win something!

Cheers
Charles"
