Round 10 - 5th November 2005
[HKCA Report]

Crusaders v. Centaurs at Kowloon Cricket Club
Result: Crusaders won by 4 wkts

Marcus turned up, not for long, but in the short time he was with us he managed to hit a six and prove himself more dangerous to one unfortunate pigeon than the resident bird of prey circling overhead.

After coming off second best against the Centaurs in recent seasons the Crusaders were very keen to turn the tables. Bowling first Imran Farcy got the good guys off to another strong start, immediately settling into an impeccable line just short of a length on the off stump. Sending the ball down at a furious pace he soon reduced the visitors to four for thirty. At the other end Killer had a golden opportunity to lock down an opening bowler position but unfortunately for him he couldn’t quite grasp it. Gio came on to replace the denizen of Davenport and once again bowled at a lively speed and could be said to have got the rough end of the pineapple by not claiming a wicket.

Immy was taken off after seven fine probing overs and replaced by Toddy. The Crusaders long standing professional did not have one of his best days and went for 37 runs off his two overs bowling fuller than a catholic school. The captain looking very frustrated as the Centaurs clawed their way back into the match had words with the hapless bowler who responded with some distinctly colorful language. By drinks the visitors had recovered well to 4/150.

Looking to break the partnership Killer was given another chance to thrust himself upon the game, this time with his Saturday league topping off breaks. Those who imply the man is short a sheet of bark or two fail to appreciate the sharpness of his tool. In the blink of an eye he found enough movement in the air and off the pitch to take the crucial wicket. Mohanna removed the dangerous Iftikar for a well hit 87 off 60 balls. Immy and Mojo then went through the tail like a packet of crackers to have the Centaurs bowled out for 194.

With the teams most high profile socialite, Beefy Baker having to perform best man duties again at 4 pm, he was moved up to the opening slot to ensure he could make it. He timed it perfectly getting out cheaply, but more importantly giving himself plenty of time to get to the wedding. The Captain then came and went. Marcus was next in at number four and showed us all his undisputed but lethal talent with a hard hitting 19 runs. He then promptly disappeared, apparently to the same wedding as Beefy we found out later. Mojo the team’s sole fully fledged ODI once again showed the class that reaped him 30 runs against the Pakistan national team last year. With a well struck 45 he firmly set the Crusaders on course for victory. Mohanna and Killer also batted very well scoring 33 and 39 runs respectively.

It was the third win on the trot for the resurgent Crusaders who will be looking to maintain their current form for the coming four matches before Christmas.

At KCC: Centaurs 194 (Iftikhar Ahmed 87; Imran Farcy 9-1-34-5) lost to Crusaders 195-6 (Manoj Cheruparambil 45, Mohanna Marzook 33, Damien Kelleher 39*; Chandrin 7-0-66-4) by 4 wkts
