2003
KCC Cricket Summer Camp proves a big hit with the kids
AS a new initiative by the section, the Cricket
Committee organised a free summer camp for Club members. The camp
was open to boys and girls between the ages of 8-13 years (although
a few younger children as attended), with a total of 16 sessions
running over the last two weeks in July and the first two weeks
in August and culminating in a match against a
team from the Hong
Kong Cricket
Academy. The Cricket Summer Camp
was run by KCC's new cricket coach, Afzaal Haider. Over 40 children
attended the KCC Cricket Summer
Camp during the 4 week period.
Thanks for Afzaal, Shiroy Vachha,
David
Brettel and Travis Pittman for their efforts in putting the Cricket
Summer Camp together. Match Report
Afzaal writes... Dear Fellows,
Thank you very much for the great opportunity of
coaching KCC Juniors in Summer camp 2003. It was really good, interesting
and entertaining
16 sessions which I spent with the KCC kids. I am sure we
will get something out of it in the near future.
On Friday 15th August, 2003 last day of the Summer
Camp, I organised a cricket match between my Academy (HKAC) Under-11
team and KCC Juniors
and I was surprised to see the result when the KCC Juniors
won by 4 runs off the third ball of the last over. The Academy
U-11
team are the current
HKCA U-11 league champions and had been training regularly
at India Club twice a week.
The KCC team was made up of the following players:
1-Richard Fowler (Captain)
2-Shah Pranit Paresh (V-Captain)
3-Anik Kamlesh Shah
4-Dennis Hathey
5-John - Alvin Yap
6-Dhiraj Mukhi
7-Payal Kamlesh Shah
8-Mok Ho Wai
9-Ajay Chainrai
10-Sheriza Wadhwani
11-Shah Aashni Paresh
12-Rebbeca Howard.
13-William Howard.
The format was twelve a side match where the twelfth
man can only bat. Both teams had 4 to 5 extra players sitting
outside to wait for any call to field as a substitute. The
match was a 20 overs game and both teams
almost completed their quota of their 20 overs. It was very
interesting and exciting game
to watch as both teams were very enthusiastic -
singing songs, slogans and shouting encouraging words to each other
throughout the match. Luckily we had more spectators than a Sunday
League
Match!
Regards,
Afzaal Haider
