v. St George's at Mission Road It was probably due to the bizaar fixture timetable this season that Saracens, who usually look forward to a weekend off, looked extremely rusty not having played for 5 weeks. Those who missed the December fixture had not been in action for 7 weeks. This is far too long for those senior players (more than half the team) whose bodies (and minds) seize up without a regular dose of exercise! As a result Saracens, batting first, limped to 185 for 5 in their 35 overs. Not many highlights to mention; Rahul 75, Shoulders a quick fire 21 when acceleration was needed and a good spell of bowling by St. Georges Tariq who finished with 3-38. It was not a large total to defend on a bumpy Mission Road outfield and flat track but Saracens, using their vast experience, proved that they can keep things tight when the pressure is on. Good spells by Shoulders (3-33), Mr Grumpy (2-33) and Skip 1 (3-34) supported by excellent fielding particularly from Tem, Anil and Steve restricted St. Georges to 144 all out in 31 overs. At Mission Road: Saracens 185-5 (R Sharma 74; Tariq 3-38) beat St George's 144 (S Malik 58, A Samaraseeka 33; J Mohammed 3-33, R Sujanani 3-34 by 41 runs [Top] Crusaders

Colts v. Yamano XI at Mission Road The Colts played their second game against the Friends in two weeks either side of x-mas and new year and with a side bolstered by several travellers and overseas students managed to provide a much improved performance at Mission Road this Sunday. Winning the toss and batting first the Friends started well, scoring at well over 9 an over with Javed Iqbal and his fellow opener taking very harshly to Ali and the unfortunate Danesh in only his second game of the season. Javed was eventually out for a quickfire 40 with the score on 70 in only the 7th over and Salim Malik came to the crease and continued in an attacking vein. The poor fielding and loose bowling did not help our cause with probably 8-10 boundaries let through due to poor fielding, however Kieran and Iftikar managed to slow the scoring and going into the second drinks break the Friends were 227 for 2 after 32 overs a run rate of 7 an over. The final session however saw a strong fight back from the Colts with Skip Correa bowling a tight round the wicket off spin and Yorgi managing to extract some spin the Friends finished the innings on 306 after their 50 overs ie the last 18 overs only went for some 4..4 per over. Skip Correa finished with 2 for 66 off 11 and Yorgi finished with 3 for 47 off 12 overs to be the best of the bowlers. In reply Nazam and Grayson started well enough with a 30 run opening stand before Nazam and then Louis both slashed at wide deliveries outside off stump in the same over from Khalid. Both were caught in slips and will be disappointed with their undisciplined dismissals. Skip Correa and Grayson brought on the score to 93 for 2 at 17 over drinks and the Colts were on track for a big total and at a good run rate of 5.5 and over. However when Correa was out for 34 after drinks, then Sean Brierley plump lbw shortly thereafter the Colts had a slowing in the run rate. Grayson was out for a well made 59 and both Arshard and Ifitkar chimed in for 30's, however in the end the 235 all out in the 46th over was all we could manage. A much improved performance and we look forward to Infidels and Optimists in the coming weeks. At Mission Road: Friend's XI 306-6 (J Iqbal 37, Illahi 93, S Malik 103; Y Mahtani 3-49) beat KCC Colts 234 (G Tyndale 59, I Ahmed 32; K Khan 4-69, J Iqbal 3-35) by 72 runs [Top] [ Saturday League ][ Sunday League ][ Back to Top ][ Return to Members' End ] |
