Match Report

The result of the match v. Yamano XI was later reversed by the MDC, citing slow bowling by Yamano XI. Scores taken at the 45 over mark, showed that Infidels had a superior run-rate.

Profiles

No match this week.

What a perfect opportunity to lift the lid on my latest venture. I am writing player profiles on some of my favourite Infidels (past and present). This is a response to a number of hysterical requests and also it provides some guidance for the fool who puts his hand up to govern next season. In searching for my first subject I needed to looked not further than the source of so much of my inspiration. My workplace.

This week is Careers Week and the questions have been flying around about jobs , qualifications, what will I do when I leave school and all of those old chestnuts. It was Singapore Chan ( 4C ) who told me she wanted to be a newsreader. She asked me if I knew a newsreader who she could interview for her project. I said proudly that I knew Nick Waters. 'Who that is ?' replied Singapore.

I was aghast that Nick's fame had not reached Singapore so I did some investigating. Lime So (3E) and Speed Ng (5B) had also not heard of the great allrounder. Indeed it comes to pass that not a single soul in my school has any knowledge of this doyen. I decided I must fix this. Nick needs a profile. What better place to lift his profile than by plugging him in his Members End. It might lift him off the floor too.

Nick was born in Kabul in 1931 the son of Anthrax and Beastie Waterslowski and the brother of Taleban. Nick's formative years were miserable. Beastie did not like him and Anthrax was a meek and submissive father who gave in to all of Beastie's wicked schemes. Nick was sent down pit at the age of 2 and did not see light of day until WWII was long finished. Things changed after the war when Anthrax came into some money and the family moved across the border to Pakistan where Anthrax earned a place in The Pakistan cricket team. Young Nicky's love for the game was born.

The lessons Nick learnt in that dark hole would stay with him. The wounds were deep but truly nothing compared with the ones that resulted from Nick's first true romance. Nick left Islamabad and moved to Hong Kong where he fell in love with a policewoman. The physical and emotional scars remain to this day. Many say that Nick's finest quality is that he is a good friend to his friends. Try as I might, and I did search high and low, I could not find anybody willing to own Nick as a friend. This makes it hard for me to wax lyrical about his finest quality but I will give it a crack.

Nick was my roommate on a golf trip and I had a poor first round. Nick let me kick and punch him until 4.30 a.m. Whata guy!!!!

As a cricketer Nick is a slow bowler, a slow batsman and a slow fielder which makes him first picked in my side because he makes me feel good about myself.

End of Season Report

Season 2001-2002 was one of unrealized potential for the Infidels. We were in with a shout for the whole time but a couple of crucial losses counted against us. I would like to tell you where we finished but I can't. The league never finished and it never will. Certainly an odd result but at the same time the eventual winner Scorpions had done enough to earn their crown.

The season saw great strides in terms of league cricket by Roy Lamsam and Chris Williams. The latter received just rewards for years of perseverance and is currently trialling to break into The HK side for some major tournaments. Ravi Sujanani was handy with bat and ball and Timogen Hield proved to be a find with the ball. Jamshaid Mohammed was a mid season recruit and toiled manfully. Anthony Barnett and Toby White are both talented and eccentric. Simon Scanlon like his skipper made most of his runs on Saturdays which is a pity because we play on Sundays. Ray Brewster was the best keeper on show in the league and is not as bitter and twisted as some will tell you. Don Mohammed was the stock bowler and the captain's whipping boy. Our oustanding player and very possibly the greatest Infidel of all time was Mark Eames who churned out over 1000 runs against whatever opposition he faced. A legend.

Adrian Baker was rarely sighted but was good company when about and his batting is improving. Nick Waters is a member of our squad but the only time I saw him was at 8.00 p.m every night in those silly clothes and that woeful haircut. If Nick ever plays he should certainly be the whole teams whipping boy.

I will see you in Cebu and that will be an interesting match report don't you worry about that.

Damian Green
